Annoyances

Okay, I've been working on my blog all day, cleaning it up and trying to make it sparkle (if only a little). In doing so I've been struggling for hours trying to make everything "cross-browser-compliant."

What does that mean? Well, it means that my blog should appear the same in every single (modern) web-browser known to man. Now with those web browsers (firefox, safari, opera) that are w3c (world-wide-web convention) compliant, this is a piece of cake and requires very little, if any, tweaking.

However in the BROWSER that is not, nor has it ever been, w3c compliant--my life is a living hell. Internet Explorer requires so many hacks and tweaks to display web content in a way similar to other browsers that I've simply had enough. So from this day on, my blog is no longer Internet Explorer compatible.

Now of course that is a little dramatic, but come on, I'm sick of Microsoft not adhering to the same standards the rest of the world does. So should you visit my website from Internet Explorer, or an Internet Explorer front-end (like AOL and Yahoo!Browser) you can expect three things:

  1. My "WildSnap" logo will no longer be transparent, but will rather have an annoying bluish hue behind it. This is something I could correct easily, but I like using transparent PNG image files and Internet Explorer is the only browser that doesn't support transparency with PNG's, so there you have it.
  2. Should you click the email link from my top menu bar the popup will appear far to the right of where it should appear.
  3. Should you click the contact info link from my top menu bar the popup image will appear far to the right of where it should appear (oh and transparent PNG again!)
So, that said, if you use Internet Explorer... you have my condolences and I do apologies for any inconvenience this may cause you... but I have had enough. Even with the w3c standards aside, Internet Explorer is still the most extremely susceptible web browser to exploitation. I've seen more viruses and their kin infect a computer via Internet Explorer than any other means.

If you want my advice, go with FireFox, life does get better.
